Best Acne Skin Treatments : Over the Counter Acne Treatments

The first thing that many people do when they get acne problems is rush to the dermatologist for a prescription or end up spending a fortune for some "miracle cure" that is supposed to treat acne right away and make it go away overnight. All you really need to do, however, is take a trip to your local drugstore and you can find some of the best acne skin treatments over the counter.

Peroxide

A bottle of Benzoyl Peroxide at the drugstore is about 79 cents. What few people realize is that peroxide is as close to a wonder product as anyone can get. It kills germs, works as a disinfectant, cleans silver and can even help cure acne.

Take the peroxide and dab it onto your face with a clean cotton ball right onto the blemishes. Most acne treatment creams contain peroxide. You do not want to put this all over your face because you will end up drying out your entire face. Just dab it on the spots and watch them start clearing up.

Witch Hazel

Looking for an astringent? Perhaps you have been to the cosmetic counter and have seen skin toners and astringents for about $10 a bottle or more. They usually come in a nice looking bottle and promise to cleanse your skin thoroughly after cleaning, removing excess dirt. And they work, too.

But you can save yourself a lot of money by simply picking up a bottle of Witch Hazel. This is also a product that you can find at your local drug store for under $1 and will work just as effectively as an astringent on your skin. Cleanse your skin and then use Witch Hazel as an astringent. It is just as effective as any other type of toner but costs a lot less money.

Vitamin E

You can purchase Vitamin E in capsule forms at the local drugstore. Vitamin E is good for acne treatment both internally and externally. You can open up the capsules and put the vitamin right on the pimples. An entire jar of Vitamin E capsules is about $5 and will not dry out your skin.

Acne Treatments and Creams

You can also purchase acne treatments and creams at the local drugstore over the counter that work well to rid your skin of the occasional pimple or blemish. Acne is not caused by the foods that you eat but by hormonal fluctuations. The creams and ointments will dry up the blemish rather than treat the hormonal imbalance. You do want to be careful that you do not over use these ointments as they have a habit of drying out the skin.

If your skin is very oily, use a good deodorant soap when you wash. Many people, especially women, are prone to using mild cleansers that do not remove the oil or dirt from the skin. This can be especially problematic if you have large pores. Good soap will work to cleanse your skin. If possible, use anti-bacterial soap.

You can generally keep your acne under control by using over the counter best acne skin treatments. If the acne persists, see a dermatologist who may use light therapy in an effort to further clear up the problem. You may also want to talk to an endocrinologist about any hormonal imbalance that can be causing your acne, although if you are a teenager or are approaching menopause, hormonal fluctuations are a normal part of life.
